Berkshire Language Management, Inc. is a full-service language consulting, culture awareness, and educational company. Founded in 2004, Berkshire LM has a talented team of translators, interpreters, and trainers who work in their native language. These expert individuals are highly trained in many fields and languages with 15+ years of experience.
Berkshire LM is ready to be your language service provider in your global market. About Silvana Kirby
Silvana Kirby, founder of Berkshire Language Management, was born in Colombia, South America. She moved to the United States with her parents in 1988. She grew up in Shawnee on Delaware and East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
Silvana received a Bachelor’s degree in International Business from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA with continuing education in Translation and Interpreting from Pittsburgh University and UMASS, Amherst. Silvana is also a Nationally Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI-Spanish). She is a committed member of the IMIA and ATA, NETA, TAHIT, NCIHC.
Cultural Experience
Silvana brings cultural experience through her past work in export and import sales managing multi-million dollar accounts worldwide with Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. She also has worked on cultural issues and concerns with the World Trade Center, Pittsburgh. While living in Pittsburgh, she worked on implementing and creating export and import business plans for local Pittsburgh businesses as well as working as a Project Manager intern for a translation company. These experiences encouraged Silvana to continue with her language work and start her own translating and interpreting business, Berkshire Language Management, Inc., as well as working with Berkshire AHEC as the Director of Medical Interpreting Programs (MIT) and as a Spanish Video Interpreter for AMN Language Services/Stratus Video, a Language Service Company.
Community Engagement
Silvana Kirby, CMI-Spanish, is the Director of the Medical Program (MIT) at Berkshire AHEC, Pittsfield MA. Silvana’s work has included designing specialized Medical Interpreter curricula in the areas of Health Systems and Language Coaching. She also helps implement the Mental Health curricula. Silvana has also served as Berkshire AHEC’s Lead Instructor for the Medical Interpreter Training program and has also collaborated in the development and implementation of the UMASS Medical School’s MassAHEC Network Medical Interpreter Training Program materials and curriculum. In addition to her work in the field of medical interpretation, Silvana has collaborated with local hospitals and private practices as a Culture Consultant and Instructor. Silvana utilizes her community engagement and international business education to support diverse organizations and communities to achieve systemic change toward the elimination of health disparities.
About Claudia Restrepo
Claudia L. Restrepo has been part of our Berkshire Language Management team for more than 5 years as a freelance translator in our Translation Department. She was born in Colombia, South America and currently resides in the United States with her family. Claudia received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising at Autónoma de Occidente in Cali, Colombia, with continuing education in marketing.
Claudia began her bilingual career at an early age. Since childhood she attended the bilingual Colegio Bennet, in Cali, Colombia. Berkshire LM is proud to share Claudia’s talent and beautiful expression of the Spanish language with you.
